Jon B @ Jazz Cafe

Your a brother from another mother, a white guy with soul and had hit tracks since the early 90s i.e. 'They Don't Know', 'Whatcha Say Boo'and 'Don't Talk'. I Fell in love with your latest song in 2010 'Helpless Romantic'.

I was so happy to find out that you were performing in London at the Jazz Cafe on 21st June 2010. It was the best time of my life and I hope you come back soon as I'm helplessly in love with you. x

No Place Like Home!

I open the door to my home in Essex and walk through the passage way greeted by the voice of my little brother and sister " hello Sav Sav". I feel a sense of belonging and a warm feeling as my Ghanaian stepfather looks at me with a smile on his face, pleased to see me.

The first thing I do is take off my shoes and put it in the shoe box throw my unclean clothes in the laundry room and run up stairs " out of breath". I then enter the purple room where I find all my homely possessions.

Right now I'm living in the east London as I'm completing a journalism training course with Catch22 Academy. I love that I have my own Independence as I'm staying at grandfathers but having know TV to watch is a nightmare.

No Eastenders, No Friends, No Kardashains , nothing literally.

The only thing I Have is my grandads vintage radio, at times it plays two stations at once and I'm sure as I listen to the pirate stations you hear the sound of Windows 2007 shutting down, "so ghetto". I really have to wonder what them people are doing.

I lived in London for 18 years and its funny that when you leave an area things change whether it is good or bad. There are many things that I've noticed that sadden me but makes me happy as this was my roots until a teen.

Living in Essex has made me see how you can go anywhere you want but there are some grotty places like anywhere else the atmosphere is different not claustrophobic and not having to look over your shoulders. " I feel free".

Essex has been my home for seven years but something always pulls me back to east London and as Dorothy says: "There's know place like home".

Writers Delight!

Fashion & beauty journalist Eve Wagstaff dishes the dirt as a journalist for Blackhair magazine.

I found that from an early age I was interested in journalism as I was always writing short stories. Later on in my life, I then did a fashion and textiles course degree which I found really insightful and fun. I really wanted to get into fashion and beauty as I felt it was my strongest point and then pursued a career from it.

After my degree I had completed a NUJ course and then went to the London College of Fashion where I studied Introduction to Fashion Journalism. Since then I've completed several work placements for a while, built on that and came to Blackhair magazine.

One of the best things about being a fashion and beauty journalist is that I'm able to write about things that I'm interested in and love as this enables me to share my passion with readers. It really is a lot of fun writing about hair, beauty and interviewing celebrities. Everyday there's something new to do.

I feel that people should know that journalism is a competitive industry to get into and that you should keep on persevering and not give up. Don't be put off if you don't hear back from employers, you should know what you want as people can pick up on it; overall just go for it.
